Terms of Service

nameme.lol is an entertainment website where people make paid contributions to competitively rename fictional characters.

You must be at least 18 years old, or otherwise legally able to enter into these Terms and authorize the payment method you use.

Each successful rename payment changes the active character’s current name when the payment is processed and adds the full payment amount to its public cumulative value. Another person may rename the character later. The name that is current when the auction finally closes becomes the character’s official name. A payment does not guarantee how long you stay in control or that your name ultimately wins.

The Naming Rules explain the current auction mechanics and form part of these Terms.

By completing Checkout, you represent that you are authorized to use the payment method provided.

Successful rename payments are generally final. Being renamed later, losing the final naming position, or another rename completing shortly before or after yours is not grounds for a refund. Every successful rename still supplies the purchased action: it changes the character’s current name when processed and permanently increases cumulative value.

Exceptions may be made for a moderation disqualification, duplicate or technical charge, processing error, or another exceptional refund approved by the operator. These Terms do not promise a refund for any particular complaint or circumstance unless the operator confirms one.

The minimum next rename is 50% of the immediately previous successful rename contribution, rounded up to the nearest $5, with a $5 floor. The displayed minimum may change while another person is completing Checkout.

A Checkout validly created at the then-current minimum remains valid if completed later, provided the auction is still open when the payment is processed.

Each character remains open for a configured minimum period. After that minimum passes, it closes only when its configured quiet period passes without a successful rename. Every successful rename during the closing window restarts that quiet period. The current name at the authoritative final close wins.

If a payment is first confirmed after the auction’s authoritative final close, it does not alter the completed auction. It may be reviewed by the operator and refunded or otherwise resolved as appropriate.

A character’s displayed value is the gross cumulative amount of its successful rename contributions. It is not a cash balance, is not redeemable, is not an investment or asset, does not convey ownership, and carries no expectation of financial return.

Subject to moderation and continued operation of the service, the winning name, attribution, and history remain on the completed character’s public profile. There is currently no scheduled expiration, subscription, or recurring charge.

If new character-lifecycle mechanics are introduced later, they will apply prospectively under the then-published Rules and Terms and will not shorten or expire characters completed before that launch. Founding status remains permanently based on character number. Historical recognition does not grant ownership or intellectual-property rights.

You must have the right to submit proposed character names, public display names, Winner URLs, reports, and other content you provide. Do not submit hateful or unlawful content, threats, harassment, impersonation, or malicious or phishing links.

We may reject content before Checkout, disqualify and remove a paid rename after payment, remove links or other content from public display, and restrict abusive use of the service. If a paid rename is disqualified for violating the Rules, it may be removed from public history, auction state may be recalculated, and a refund will normally be attempted through the current moderation process. Moderation does not create a guaranteed refund right for subjective complaints.

You keep any rights you have in your submitted content and grant the operator a limited, non-exclusive license to host, review, reproduce, and publicly display it as needed to operate and promote the service.

Winner URLs are supplied by users and are not nameme.lol endorsements. You are responsible for a destination you submit. Unsafe or malicious links may be rejected or removed. We do not guarantee the availability, safety, accuracy, or content of third-party destinations.

Winner URLs and displayed click counts are informational. They do not guarantee traffic, promotion, clicks, impressions, search placement, or commercial results.

Public display names are user-provided, are not verified identities, and may be used by unrelated people. A displayed name does not prove that the named person or company made a payment.

Character values, tiers, names, numbers, profiles, and site status have no guaranteed monetary value. A payment buys only the limited entertainment and service rights described here. It does not transfer the underlying character artwork, site, software, trademarks, or other intellectual property.

nameme.lol content and character artwork remain owned by the operator or applicable rights holder.

We may modify or discontinue the service, correct errors, and adjust future rules, tier thresholds, pricing, or mechanics. Changes apply prospectively as published. They do not rewrite the policy versions and payment terms stored for a completed Checkout.

The service is provided as available and may experience interruptions or errors. To the extent permitted by applicable law, the operator is not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Any direct liability relating to a rename is limited to the amount paid for that rename. Nothing here excludes rights or liability that cannot legally be excluded.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wisconsin, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where applicable law requires otherwise.
